IDLI AND SAMBAR

INGREDIENTS

  • Urad dal - 2 cups
  • Idli Rawa ( Cream of Rice ) - 4 cups
  • Salt - 1 1/2 tsp
  • Baking Soda - 1/4 tsp
  • Water - 2 - 4 cups
  • PREPARATION


 

 

 

  • Soak 2 cups of Urad dal or minapa pappu for 6 - 8 hrs in the day .
  • Once the dal becomes soft take 4 cups of idli rawa and soak in water.
  • Drain away water from the top and set squeeze the extra water and set a side.
  • Grind the dal very soft by adding water gradually and mix the rawa to it .
  • Set it to ferment over night .
  • In the morning mix the idli batter well adding baking soda and salt and a cup of water .
  • Take the idli mould and apply little oil and pour the batter .
  • Steam cook for about 20 min for the whole stand of Idli moulds .
  • Once they are cooked , serve hot with sambar or karappodi .
  • Cooking time 20 min . Serves -4 -5 persons
  • Cook on little high flame for 10 min and then lower to medium.
